Nov. 15, 2010 seminar

A Brief History of Circuit Simulation and Optimization
Speaker: Dr. Ron Rohrer (Spice Tool Pioneer)
Location: ENC1002
Date and Time: Monday November 15, 2010 2:00-3:00 PM

ABSTRACT:
With particular emphasis on circuit simulation and optimization, Ron Rohrer has been
involved with Electronic Design Automation (EDA) since the early 1960s. In this talk he’ll
provide both business and technical perspectives on the origin and evolution of those and
related aids to electronic circuit design.

BIOGRAPHY:
Ron Rohrer is Founder and Chairman of systemIC, Inc. and University Professor Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. A noted professor, tool innovator and entrepreneur, Ron is recognized as an early developer of circuit simulation,
integrated circuit interconnect reduction and delay calculation. He is credited with driving Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools into broader industry use. In 1968, in a graduate course he taught at UC, Berkeley, he oversaw the production of an integrated circuit simulation program similar to the FairCirc program he had developed earlier at Fairchild Semiconductor, a forerunner to SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis).
